In the heart of the small spa village of Eugénie-les-Bains

Since 2017, Les Prés d’Eugénie has been part of the Palaces de France. A well-deserved label thanks to a mastery of the art of entertaining and a very special heritage. The history of this Maison de Charme began in 1861, when Napoleon III’s wife, Empress Eugénie, sponsored the small spa. After several successions, the beauty of the premises was sublimated into an elegant Relais & Châteaux hotel. Guests come for its upscale country ambience and spa treatments, but also (and above all) to sample the Grande Cuisine Minceur of Michel Guérard, considered one of the founding fathers of “nouvelle cuisine”. His original, wholesome cuisine soon won him international acclaim and a succession of three Michelin stars from 1977 to the present day.

Les Prés d’Eugénie is located in Eugénie-les-bains in south-west France, a village nestled in a countryside of water gardens and roses. To get there by train, the nearest mainline station is in Dax (70 km). Otherwise, Pau-Pyrénées airport is 45 km away, Lourdes 100 km and Bordeaux less than two hours by car.

A living museum with country charm

Accommodation at this Relais & Châteaux is divided between two areas of the estate: the Grande Maison, with its refined style, and the Jardins, with its pastoral charm.

In the Big House

In the Meadows Wing and Springs Wing of this family-run house, you’ll find Classic and Superior Rooms, Luxury Rooms, Suites and Royal Suites. Almost all have a balcony or terrace. While the Deluxe Rooms feature a small sitting/reading area, the Suites have a separate living room. Although all offer a refined atmosphere, the Royal Suites are the most sumptuous in this part of the hotel. Wood panelling, white marble and original antiques from the XVIIIᵉ and XIXᵉ centuries decorate this 80 m² cocoon. Indeed, Les Prés d’Eugénie is a veritable living museum.

The Historic Empress Wing features Luxury Rooms, a Royal Suite and Imperial Suites. These are often considered the two most beautiful in the house. Measuring 120 and 150 m², they have the privilege of opening onto three cardinal points. The highlight of the show: the rooms are decorated with objets d’art and “Empire” paintings. Two exceptional accommodations.

In the Gardens

Surrounded by lush greenery, two 18thᵉ century buildings have been refurbished into country-style rooms and suites. In a setting of waxed floor tiles and Persian rugs, the atmosphere is beautifully poetic. All different, some suites have a separate living room, others a private garden.

Children of all ages are welcome! To make families’ stay as comfortable as possible, the hotel has provided “Family Friendly” rooms.

A spa with thousand-year-old thermal springs

For a moment of well-being, head to Ferme Thermale d’Eugénie. This XVIIᵉ century Landes farmhouse boasts a charming cocooning space with 21 treatment rooms, two kaolin (white clay) pools and a thermal water and herbal steam bath.

The spa draws its strength from two thermal springs (over 18,000 years old!) rich in minerals and trace elements, and free from pollution. They are recognized as soothing for muscle and joint pain.

Ferme Thermale d’Eugénie also pays close attention to the benefits of plants. A qualified herbalist has selected the most suitable ones to improve blood circulation, breathing and the elimination of impurities. Plants are also at the heart of beauty care. Plant extracts of natural origin and essential oils are your precious allies during Sisley phyto-aromatic treatments.

A 24-hour Fitness Shack in the Gardens features Technogym equipment and a “kinesis” muscle-strengthening device. Yoga and Pilates classes are also held here.

Outside, a heated swimming pool is open all year round, and two tennis courts are accessible and lit at night.

Cycling, hiking and golf are all within easy reach of the hotel.

A moment for yourself with the Eugénie method

The treatment menu continues to focus on the virtues of plants and thermal springs. And to take things a step further, the hotel offers several wellness escapades based on detox, slimming or relaxation. They are specially created according to the Eugénie method, which is based on six principles:

  • healthy cooking

For the Detox and Fasting Retreats offered at the hotel, the Botanical Cuisine is designed to quickly purify and rebalance the body.

The Grande Cuisine Minceur is suggested for Petites et Grandes Fugues, à la carte stays and Semaine Privée.

  • a disconnect

Les Prés d’Eugénie is nestled in an environment that invites total relaxation. Guests’ stay is punctuated by the church’s angelus, the sound of running water in the fountains and leaves in the wind.

Taste the legendary cuisine of Michel Guérard

The creator of the Grande Cuisine Minceur, Chef Michel Guérard also offers guests the chance to rediscover cuisine from a different angle: still delicious, but more balanced and respectful of nature. To achieve this, four principles are essential:

  • products from organic farming or with high environmental value
  • limiting daily calorie intake
  • a balance of plant and animal proteins, carbohydrates, unprocessed fatty acids, fibres, vitamins and trace elements
  • and above all the pleasure of eating (even dessert)!

Winner of three Michelin stars for over forty years, Chef Michel Guérard also invites guests to savor gourmet Southwestern cuisine at his restaurant La Table des Prés d’Eugénie. Whether it’s a seasonal menu or the attractive Terroir Sublime (a lower-priced menu), guests will be delighted by the fireplace and historic paintings.

For a more “rustic” Gascon atmosphere, the Ferme aux Grives is not to be missed. The region’s most emblematic recipes are served at large tables d’hôtes and on the terrace. Expect conviviality and local delicacies, with generous, “old-fashioned” cuisine.

Surrounded by furniture and objets d’art, Loulou’s Lounge Bar majestically protects a Library of Armagnacs. See you at 9pm when the doors of this large Chinese wardrobe open. But first, enjoy a Tea Time with madeleines and gingerbread under the paintings of the Empress.

And whether you’re looking for a tomato gazpacho as an aperitif or a slice of grandma’s cake for a snack, all munchies can be wonderfully satisfied at Café Mère Poule.
