Our review : the Alpine Spa at Hotel Bürgenstock, one of Europe’s top 10 spas.

Every once in a while, a hotel takes us by storm. Pascal Languillon, CEO of Luxe Wellness Club, tells us about his absolute love affair with the Bürgenstock Hotel and its Alpine Spa, undoubtedly one of the very best in Europe. While the outdoor pool has acquired cult status on Instagram, it’s the whole hotel that impresses with its luxury and breathtaking views. Don’t hesitate to book via our services!

A luxury hotel that’s a sight to behold

The “Bürgenstock Hotel” is the jewel in the crown of the “Bürgenstock Resort”, a group of luxury hotels built on a mountaintop overlooking Lake Lucerne and the Lucerne region of Switzerland. Opened in 2017 following a massive investment by a Qatari fund, the hotel quickly became a runaway success, thanks in particular to its breathtaking view and its outdoor swimming pool, one of the most Instagrammable in the world. I was lucky enough to go there in January 2021 during a particularly snowy week, which gave a truly magical feel to the landscape, with the fir trees all white. I returned in the summer of 2023.

While the latter is a modern hotel, hospitality is a tradition at the Bürgenstock resort, as many celebrities, including Audrey Hepburn and Charlie Chaplin, have stayed here since the first Grand Hotel opened in 1873. A legendary funicular takes you to this exceptional establishment.

The hotel comprises 80 rooms and 22 luxury suites, and with a spa covering 10,000 m² (including the entire outdoor pool area), it boasts the largest spa hotel in Switzerland. The Bürgenstock Resort features 12 restaurants, lounges and bars, a 9-hole golf course, tennis courts and over 70 km of hiking trails.

Each room features a large bay window, superb lake views, a fireplace and a double bath.

Alpine Spa: the epitome of luxury

Its imposing size is a fact, but there’s no doubt that the Alpine Spa is also one of the most luxurious in Europe. Everything here is an invitation to immerse yourself in a world of beauty, vitality and harmony, with the impression of floating above Lake Lucerne. What better feeling than to let yourself be enveloped in pleasant warmth while watching the snowflakes fall outside?

Of course, the highlight here is the “Infinity Edge” outdoor pool, heated all year round to 35°C, one of the most impressive in the world. Bathing here is an exhilarating experience that leaves no one indifferent. Just look at the smiles on the lips of the bathers… So successful has it been that the hotel has had to introduce restrictions, and it is forbidden to take photos in the spa outside certain time slots in order to preserve the tranquility of the place.

The indoor pool also boasts splendid views, and unlike the outdoor pool, is suitable for swimming. I loved this large, magnificent room, with its stone and wood, and the impression of serenity that emanates from the whole. You could almost spend the whole day looking at the view…

The lower floor offers numerous relaxation rooms, with beds and sofas of all kinds to stretch out your legs and enjoy the view.

A mixed nudist zone includes two saunas, various hot and cold baths, an ice room and a relaxation area. Women also have their own reserved area with sauna and hammam, etc.

I loved the large sauna with its view of the lake and snow, and the design which sometimes seems to be inspired by Japan. Another special mention goes to the saltwater pool, where you can float effortlessly.

Tea and fruit are available in the various relaxation areas. The whole unit is very spacious and comfortable, and I had no trouble spending many hours in it. I was lucky enough to enjoy the sunset, then the sunrise the next day… I can attest to the fact that Alpine Spa is a destination in itself, and it’s unquestionably one of my favorite spas!

The spa also features thirteen modern treatment rooms and a 24-hour fitness area with the latest Technogym machines.

A wide choice of catering

With 7 restaurants and 3 bars and lounges, the Bürgenstock Resort is a bastion of gastronomic excellence. First of all, I tried an excellent burger at the “Lakeview Lounge”, which is the bistro next to reception, with huge picture windows. It’s also the place to go for a drink and a taste of Swiss white wine.

The “Oak Grill” restaurant serves wood-grilled meats and fish, where I enjoyed a delicious veal steak from the neighboring farm. Bürgenstock sources as much as possible from within a radius of just a few kilometers, thus supporting the local economy.

Another restaurant I really enjoyed was “Spices”, which specializes in Asian cuisine. I particularly loved the fine salmon sashimi and the Thai dishes. The other asset of this unusual restaurant is its architecture: it literally emerges from the building, seemingly floating above the lake.

Breakfast is served here. Here again, it’s all opulence and delight, with delicious, healthy à la carte recipes and extensive platters.
