An eco-friendly hotel in exceptional surroundings

The Eco-Hotel Saltus is a 4-star boutique hotel located at 1100 m altitude in the Italian Dolomites, in the pretty hilltop village of San Genesio, a few kilometers from Bolzano. It’s a quiet, wooded area, with splendid panoramic views of the peaks in the distance. Despite its end-of-the-world feel, the area is still easily accessible: it’s just a 3-hour drive from Milan.

Hotel Saltus is the brainchild of Nadja Mumelter, her sister Claudia and their mother, Hedwig, who manages a more traditional adjoining hotel (where Hotel Saltus’s main restaurant is now located). Hospitality is a family tradition, as it was great-grandfather Franz who built the village’s first hotel in the 1950s, convinced that the sunny mountain climate had health benefits.

The three women also believe in the healing power of nature, which is why they set out to create an exceptional spa, basing the essence of their therapies on the connection with the forest.

The Forest Spa: maximum relaxation among the fir trees

The spa’s first highlight is its incredible 17-meter-long outdoor infinity pool, heated all year round. This “sky pool” offers breathtaking views, and was recently named one of the 10 most beautiful pools in Europe. The hotel also has a second small indoor pool, especially for children.

If a prize were awarded for the most beautiful saunas, the Hotel Saltus could win it, thanks to its bay windows that give the impression of being at one with nature .

One of the Saltus Hotel’s highlights is its daily yoga classes, taught by owner Hedwig Mumelter. These take place in a beautiful, dedicated room, with top-of-the-range carpets by Saltus. Hedwig’s other specialty is guiding clients in forest bathing sessions to learn to listen to nature again and feel its healing power. The spa team also offers meditation classes . All this is included free of charge in the basic room rate. The hotel also organizes occasional retreats with outside teachers.
