Château de La Messardière: a cocktail of well-being under the Saint Tropez sun

The Château de La Messardière will reopen its doors in July 2021 after a complete renovation by Airelles Collection, certainly France’s most exclusive hotel group. This former family home, now a 5-star Palace, has everything you need for an exceptional stay. The facilities are impressive, from the heated mirror pool to the Valmont spa with its Iyashi Dome and levitation bath. Children are also catered for, with a 500 m² villa just for them. Luxe Wellness Club invites you to float away in this bubble of summer well-being.

A must-see hotel in Saint-Tropez

This property is a landmark on the Côte d’Azur. Its coat of arms, dating from 1669, anchors the Château in the history of Saint-Tropez. It takes its name from officer Henry Brisson de la Messardière, who gave the château to his wife, artist Louise Dupuy D’Angeac, as a wedding gift. In 1904, the house was transformed into a hotel and soon became a legendary place to stay in “Saint-Trop”. Although the hotel has just been renovated, the spirit of the place remains unchanged.

Lots of style (Photo: Airelles Collection)

Renovation of the Château has built on the historic charm of this large family home, while adding a fresh, modern touch. Interior designer Christophe Tollemer has succeeded in letting a lot of light into these large spaces in natural colors. The decor of the Château, and in particular of its 103 rooms and suites, is a subtle blend of materials typical of the South of France: white and gray ochres, Salernes lava and terracotta.

Antique furniture sits alongside contemporary elements, punctuated by blond wood and ironwork. The best part is the view, as sublime as ever: umbrella pines, olive trees, cypresses, not forgetting our beloved Mediterranean.

For those in need of more space, Château de La Messardière offers a number of suites, as well as a duplex villa. The latter benefits from a private garden and swimming pool, and has the privilege of occupying an entire tower of the Château (170 m²). It features a living room and three bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms with bath and shower.

While the yoga studio beckons for a few outdoor sun salutations, a fully-equipped gym with Technogym machines brings you back indoors. There’s also a fitness trail overlooking the Mediterranean and tennis courts. The icing on the cake: the hotel has its own private beach, reached by a free shuttle bus from the Château.

Letting go at Spa Valmont

As if the sea air wasn’t enough to relax you, the Château invites you to discover the different areas of its Valmont Spa. Over 1,000 sq. m. of space, you can relax from head to toe, and even sublimate your summer look at the Maison de Coiffure by Christophe-Nicolas Biot. Everything you need to let go: nine treatment rooms, a steam room, various saunas and a beautiful indoor pool. On the magnificent terrace of the large heated outdoor swimming pool, you can bask in the sunshine without seeing the hours go by. The panoramic view over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez is exceptional.

Accomplished swimmers will also be delighted, as the hotel boasts a superb swimming corridor in the heart of the gardens (and with a view of Pampelonne!). Early risers love to swim a few laps before a hearty breakfast…

The Spa du Château is associated with La Maison Valmont, a legendary cosmetics brand. She specializes in anti-aging treatments based on the concept of cellulotherapy, a process also used at Clinique La Prairie. It’s a process that delivers unparalleled rejuvenating results, without cosmetic surgery.

The spa offers donkey milk baths. Rich in mineral salts and trace elements, donkey milk is recognized for its restructuring and protective properties. The spa also features a seawater levitation bath in the Royal Suite.

In addition, the spa is now equipped with an Iyashi Dome unit. This is a long infrared sauna, which is a gentler but more powerful technique that allows the body temperature to rise slowly and act on several elements. Some use this infratherapy for detox, others for slimming, sleep, muscle recovery or simply relaxation.

Children’s paradise is here

In keeping with the Airelles Collection tradition, Château de La Messardière attaches great importance to the well-being of children and teenagers. During its renovation, the hotel decided to dedicate an entire 500 m² villa just for its guests aged 4 to 17. A veritable summer paradise, with free access, creative and original workshops, always supervised by professionals.

Every day, a new program welcomes children in a setting inspired by pirates and mermaids. With an arcade, private cinema, swimming pool, mini-farm, tree house and tennis courts, your little ones will never want to go back to school!

Endless gourmet delights

The restaurants also underwent a facelift during the hotel’s renovation. New concepts, both local and international, take over the terraces of Château de La Messardière. Even on the beach or in the village! Jardin Tropézina’ s private beach can be reached by Mini-Moke or Rolls Royce.

In a relaxed atmosphere, you can be served all day long, with a glass of fresh rosé. In the city center, chef Marco Garfagnini and his Dolceva restaurant at the Pan Deï Palais (another Airelles Collection property) welcome guests to enjoy Italian cuisine with a local influence. Last but not least, Zetta, on the corner of a village alley, offers pizzettas to share and ice creams to die for.

Let’s return to Château de La Messardière and its attractive culinary offering: three restaurants with strong identities. First of all, the new Le Festin restaurant and its buffet welcome guests all day long. On the panoramic terrace, La Table Japonaise takes diners on a journey to the Far East with a chic, glamorous concept. And last but not least, the Auberge des Maures, a legendary address in Saint-Trop, serves Provencal cuisine. Over the years, it has attracted big names such as Charlie Chaplin and Brigitte Bardot.

Other celebrities have also passed through the 1904 bar. Today, the bar boasts an extensive menu of signature cocktails, including Fitzgerald’s favorite gin and Picasso’s absinthe. Who knows, maybe you’ll find your favorite, too?
