Castello Del Nero: A Renaissance castle to recharge your batteries in Tuscany

Castello Del Nero is a breathtaking 12th-century castle in the heart of Tuscany, just 30 minutes from Florence or Siena. Here, visitors in search of well-being can discover Shambhala, the COMO Group’s wellness concept.

Modern comfort and Baroque refinement

Purchased in 2018 following a crush by the group’s owner, Castello Del Nero is the very first resort in continental Europe for the COMO Hotels & Resorts group.

Entirely restored and redecorated by Milanese designer Paola Navone, the 50 rooms and suites have retained their original terracotta floors and wall frescoes, preserving the magic of the place.

The COMO Group’s distinctive aesthetic, a blend of modernity and simplicity, blends magnificently into these 900-year-old walls. Light tones, greige and noble materials perfectly enhance the space without distorting it.

Accommodation options range from charming little rooms under the eaves to prestigious suites. Each has a sumptuous view over the Tuscan countryside and the 740-hectare estate. And let’s not forget the suite with terrace offering panoramic views of the surrounding gentle green hills.

A zen air blows over Tuscany

In the heart of Italy, the COMO Group’s Shambhala concept can be found in all its resorts.

Shambhala offers holistic wellness programs combining massages, facials and body treatments for mothers-to-be, to treat jet-lag or specifically for men. You can also compose your own treatment by choosing from the massages on offer:

  • Shambhala signature massage: rebalancing
  • Mother-to-be massage
  • Deep massage: to detoxify and relieve tension
  • Indian head massage

Add a facial treatment to choose from the many Guinot anti-aging treatments available in the aesthetics area.

And let’s not forget Signature body care, which uses the estate’s own olive oil for a salt body scrub, and Tuscan lavender to scent its massage oil.

Last but not least, to balance body and mind, take advantage of yoga and meditation classes, or hire a private teacher.

The 25-metre swimming pool overlooking olive groves and vineyards, and the on-property lawn tennis courts, offer further opportunities for fitness, to suit every taste.

Slow food and gastronomy

No wellness menu to speak of, but this is slow food country. Guests at Castello Del Nero are offered exceptional products. Olive oil from the Chateau, Chianti from the surrounding vineyards and Tuscan truffles are just some of the products that can’t be missed.

In the Michelin-starred La Torre restaurant, chef Giovanni Luca Di Piro uses fresh ingredients from nearby farms and the estate’s own vegetable garden to prepare refined, seasonal dishes.

At La Taverna restaurant, the castle’s ancient kitchens and their majestic stone fireplace provide a charming backdrop for tasting the best of traditional Tuscan cuisine, while at the bar the art of the cocktail is celebrated. In moderation, of course.

Of course, the surrounding area is full of villages and towns steeped in charm and history. But for a timeless stay that’s all about rest and equilibrium, Castello Del Nero will more than satisfy the needs of travelers in search of a wellness retreat.
