Canyon Ranch Woodside: deep in the woods

“When 40 years of holistic wellness experience meet one of America’s most beautiful natural settings”…that’s the concept behind the creation of the latest addition to the Canyon Ranch family. A place to disconnect and recharge in the most natural of settings, a magnificent redwood forest in Northern California.

Pioneers of wellness tourism

In 1979, Mel and Enid Zuckerman had the idea of creating Canyon Ranch, their first health and wellness center, in Tucson, Arizona. Their vision of wellness, which favors a 360-degree approach to the individual, was at the forefront of what would become a real trend years later : wellness tourism.

In 1989, building on the success of Tucson’s Canyon Ranch, the Zuckermans and their partners opened Canyon Ranch in Lenox, Massachusetts, followed by Canyon Ranch Spa + Fitness in Las Vegas. They then integrated Canyon Ranch spas on 22 of the world’s finest cruise ships.

In 2019, in California, the Canyon Ranch universe takes on a new dimension with the creation of Canyon Ranch Woodside, a place designed to fill the growing demand for disconnection for overworked executives in nearby Silicon Valley.

A cabin spirit with a touch of luxury

Just a few miles north of San Francisco and the ultra-connected life of Silicon Valley, Woodside blends into a forest of hundred-year-old redwoods. Respectful of the site, its architecture is inspired by simple trapper’s cabins and summer camps for American teenagers.

However, the apparent simplicity of the buildings should not be taken for granted. Glass, teak, luxurious bedding – everything in the chic, Zen atmosphere of these rooms invites you to rest or contemplate. The spacious rooms open onto the forest thanks to numerous windows and bay windows.

The main building has 38 rooms, but for a truly unforgettable experience, opt for a sublime hut perched over 10 meters high in the canopy.

A refuge to reconnect with yourself

Designed around the concept of “wellness retreats”, Canyon Ranch Woodside offers three themes for stays of one night, one week or more.

Recharge – “Restore your potential” : physical challenges to re-energize you, a nutritional assessment to determine the diet that suits you best, sports recommendations based on a precise analysis of your abilities and physique. Not forgetting time for reflection and meditation, so you can return home ready to achieve your personal goals.

Connect – “Disconnect to reconnect”: Aimed at all those who have become slaves to their smartphones and tablets, this weekend-long retreat allows you to disconnect from the networks and reconnect with yourself. On the program for this digital detox: mindfulness, watercolor and aromatherapy sessions, tai chi, shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), day or night hikes.

Guest Speaker retreats – “Learn from the best”: “Masks and myths”, “Sound therapy for body and soul” (singing bowls), “Biology of intelligence”… Over the course of a weekend, genuine seminars led by acknowledged specialists in their field enable you to take a different look at the world and yourself.

Although the schedule for these retreats is packed, everyone is free to add the personalized sessions of their choice, around the quest for balance, improving physical performance, or taking advantage of the many excursions available to Canyon Ranch Woodside guests (vineyard tours, horseback riding, farm visits, mountain biking…).

Treatments infused with nature and the ocean

One of the pillars of the Canyon Ranch philosophy is the direct use of the natural world around us to improve the physical and spiritual state of our guests. In the same spirit, to optimize the benefits of a retreat, you can’t pass up the body and facial treatments offered in the Canyon Ranch Woodside wellness area.

Following a sustainable and local approach, the Ode aux Séquoias range of face and body care products is designed around the products of this magnificent wild coastline, battered by the waves of the Pacific:

– Looking for something new? We opt for the Forest to ocean treatment: a detox scrub with ocean salt, followed by a massage with a balm made from local olive oil, for 1H40 of resetting that allows you to merge with the surrounding nature.

– Need to regain a youthful glow? Try the amazing Organic Ode facial: Ingredients inspired by California’s bountiful nature lead the way in this cleansing treatment with pink grapefruit, geranium and peppermint, followed by an exfoliation with fig seeds and pumpkin enzymes. Finally, a massage and a moisturizing mask of olive oil and honey precede an application of a serum adapted to your skin.

The Hearth: tasty locavore fare
