An exceptional setting in the South of France

This estate is the culmination of a long history of passion by the Tarbouriech family, oyster farmers for three generations, for the oyster and its natural environment on the edge of the Thau lagoon, near Sète. This small oyster farm, established in 1962, has gradually diversified to create complementary experiences to its main activity of oyster production. Thus, in turn, an oyster bar, cosmetic products and, since 2018, a small charming hotel anchored in an ecotourism approach have seen the light of day.

There’s so much to enjoy here: the sea air and the region’s culinary specialties, of course, but also a superb heated swimming pool, a soothing wellness center and a host of activities in a truly exceptional setting. Indeed, the Etang de Thau is one of the most biodiverse areas in the Mediterranean basin. Domaine Tarbouriech is also located in the heart of France’s largest vineyard. If you’re a nature-lover, a wine-lover and an oyster-lover, here’s your wish!

The oyster farm is the heart of the estate, and for 50 years it has been committed to respecting the environment, thanks in particular to its “Solar Tide” system, built with wind turbines and photovoltaic panels. This exclusive, patented farming method allows the oysters to be taken out of the water every day, making the famous“Tarbouriech pink oysters” an exceptional product.

To recharge your batteries in this refined yet authentic setting, you’ll need to go to Marseillan, which is easily accessible by car. The nearest TGV stations are Agde (25 minutes by car from the estate) and Sète (35 minutes by car). Note that a journey from Paris takes 3h50 on average.

Thematically decorated accommodations

Domaine Tarbouriech is an intimate retreat with just 15 rooms and suites. Each unit is decorated with a specific theme. Four rooms and suites are located in the manor house, and nine lodges in the barn. Finally, 2 residences and the spa are housed in the vats of the chaix of this former wine estate.

Ostreatherapy: well-being through oysters!

True to its values and passion, Domaine Tarbouriech has placed the oyster at the heart of well-being by creating its own concept, “Ostreatherapy”. In a way, it’s the answer to the Vinothérapie concept created by Les Sources de Caudalie, and it’s certainly worth thinking about! For several years now, the Domaine has been developing treatment protocols based on the virtues of shellfish and seawater. Oysters are, in fact, superfoods naturally rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

Domaine Tarbouriech’s idea was to use its active ingredients, with their cosmetic and therapeutic virtues , as they have been used in China for thousands of years, and to apply them to skincare, cosmetology and dietary supplements. The Spa Ostreathérapie offers a wide range of treatments, including massages, facials, body treatments and signature rituals. They are somewhat similar to those found in other, more “classic” spas, but always with a nod to the oyster.

The treatments use Ostrealia cosmetics made from natural, 100% French products, produced on site and sold in the boutique! For a unique well-being experience, a signature ritual is essential. One of these is a full-body sculpting treatment with Ostrealia oil, followed by a mask with salicornia (a sea plant).

The 400 m² spa features a floatation bed, steam room, sauna, ice fountain, sensory shower, three treatment rooms and a balneotherapy room. A beautiful relaxation room lets you perfect a timeless moment.

The spa offers wellness packages that combine a treatment with a fresh, light meal in healthy mode, accompanied by a glass of detox fruit juice.

The Domaine also offers a range of wellness practices, including yoga sessions, discovery activities based on Ayurvedic massages and workshops to learn how to make ghee, the clarified butter so appreciated by Ayurvedic practitioners.

Original experiences

Passionate about oyster farming, the Domaine team invites you to visit the MadLab. This experimental space brings together people from a wide variety of backgrounds to collaborate. Workshops are organized especially for Domaine guests (young and old). And to continue the oyster theme, you can also become an oyster farming apprentice for a moment. This is a unique opportunity to make your own oyster rope with professionals. You’ll have to come back three years later to taste them…

The gardener invites you to come and meet him and learn more about how a biodynamic garden works. After listening to all her little secrets, you’ll be able to create your own herbal tea.

Sublime local cuisine

At Domaine Tarbouriech, the cuisine is both gourmet and respectful of nature. That’s why the estate has its own biodynamic garden. An uncommon feature in the hotel world, and one we salute!

The principle is to obtain quality food by respecting the weather, the seasons, the soil, the lunar cycle and using only compost to fertilize the soil.

In the La Folie restaurant, Mediterranean flavors are the perfect accompaniment to the Domaine’s signature oysters. Local produce takes pride of place, cooked with passion right in front of the guests. For a complete taste experience, local wines are carefully selected.

The queen of the estate is the oyster, there’s no doubt about it, and it even has its own dedicated bar: the Bar à Huîtres Les Nacres, where you can share a moment as simple as it is delicious. A little further on, on the edge of the lagoon, the Saint-Barth restaurant works wonders. You can taste the Spéciale Tarbouriech oyster in an old oyster farmhouse. Experience guaranteed!
