Our review : Buff Medical Resort

By Pascal Languillon, founder of Luxe Wellness Club.

As a wellness expert, I’ve been lucky enough to stay in some of the world’s most prestigious wellness and preventive medicine establishments. So it was only natural that I should be among the first to test the magnificent Buff Medical Resort nestling on the peaceful shores of Lake Constance, on the border between Germany and Switzerland. This establishment, which opened its doors in the spring of 2025, is still confidential. Its ambitions are certain to make it a European reference in the world of high-end medical wellness. Here’s an account of my excellent experience on site.

A new temple of medical wellness

Do you dream of a unique place where high medical technology meets the refinement of a five-star hotel? Where we take care of your heart with a state-of-the-art MRI, while offering holistic treatments such as Watsu or Abhyanga massage? Welcome to Buff Medical Resort one of Europe’s most innovative resorts, located in Constance on the shores of the lake of the same name.

Arriving at Buff Medical Resort is already a transformative experience. Located in a chic residential area of Constance, just a few minutes from the city center, the resort boasts a magnificent park with century-old trees, directly overlooking the calm waters of Lake Constance. The private park, criss-crossed by footpaths and dotted with benches and contemporary sculptures, invites silence and introspection.

As soon as I arrived, I was captivated by the aesthetics of the place, despite its imposing appearance at first glance. The clean lines and natural materials of the architecture evoke a modernized version of the sanatoriums of yesteryear. Light-colored wood, rough stone, giant bay windows: everything here exudes transparency, harmony and discreet luxury.

The choice of location owes nothing to chance: here, the air is pure, the surroundings lush, and the atmosphere perfectly conducive to regeneration. The discreet chirping of birds, the lapping of the water and the total absence of noise pollution create a cocoon of serenity. I was able to run along the banks and swim in the refreshing waters of the lake! A great pleasure.

The common areas are spacious, bright and tastefully decorated. Special mention must be made of the contemporary library, a cosy spot perfect for reading by the fire, and the relaxation room facing the lake, an invitation to meditation.

One of the first things that struck me about BUFF Medical Resort was the beauty and elegance of its pools, perfectly integrated into the park’s verdant landscape. The resort offers two complementary pools: a 15-meter indoor pool bathed in natural light, and a 25-meter outdoor infinity pool, heated all year round. The latter, bordered by majestic trees, seems to melt into the surrounding nature, creating a real sense of freedom. You can swim quietly while admiring the foliage, making it a very meditative experience. Inside, the panoramic pool offers a more cocooning setting. Its gilded ceiling lends it a luxurious atmosphere.

I enjoyed the diversity of the spa facilities: Finnish sauna, bio-sauna, infrared sauna, steam room, sensory shower, steam bath… and even a 4°C ice water pool for the brave.

Rooms designed to promote sleep and recovery

I stayed in a large suite, decorated in a minimalist yet warm style. The space is fluid, natural light is king, and every detail seems thought out for the comfort of body and mind. Soft bedding, large designer armchairs, and above all that delicious smell of wood… Not forgetting the view over the garden and lake, which changes with the passing hours like a living watercolour.

You immediately feel the intimacy of a luxury hotel, far removed from impersonal hotels. The atmosphere is calm, hushed, almost monastic.

The unique charm of these suites also lies in their attention to materials. Arolle wood from the Engadine, renowned for its soothing properties, gives off a soft, woody scent. Delicate, warm loden fabrics recall Alpine traditions, while the natural wood flooring reinforces the impression of a stay in an elegant cocoon, both refined and deeply rooted in nature.

Unlike traditional saunas, which heat the ambient air, infrared rays penetrate directly into the body’s tissues, producing a deeper, more bearable heat. The benefits are manifold. This gentle heat stimulates blood circulation, relieves muscle and joint pain, and promotes deep, natural detoxification. It’s an excellent way to boost the immune system and improve sleep quality. My ritual every night was: 30 minutes in the infrared sauna from which I could watch TV, then once the body temperature had cooled, an alkaline bath recommended by Buff. I slept so well!

At the Buff Medical Resort, another remarkable innovation enables patients to enjoy the beneficial effects of altitude… without having to leave the comfort of the lakeside. Thanks to cutting-edge technology, the hotel is able to reproduce high-altitude conditions in all rooms, on request and after medical consultation. This process is based on a controlled variation in oxygen concentration, simulating the atmosphere found at altitudes of over 2,500 meters. The body is then stimulated as if it were at real altitude, triggering a series of natural mechanisms: better oxygenation of tissues, improved blood circulation, stimulation of red blood cell production, and a beneficial effect on overall metabolism.

An ultra-personalized medical check-up

The heart of the BUFF experience is, of course, its innovative medical approach, which blends the traditions of European medicine with the latest scientific advances. From the very first day, I was welcomed by a team of very attentive doctors, who asked me many questions about my history, my lifestyle and my expectations.

Abdominal massages are an integral part of the method (Photo: Alan Sahin for Luxe Wellness Club).

This is followed by a very thorough medical check-up: complete blood analysis, postural diagnosis, cardiac variability tests, oxidative stress assessment, measurement of basic metabolism… All carried out with impressively modern equipment.

But what particularly impressed me was access to a radiation-free cardiac MRI (Cardio MRI), capable of providing a highly accurate image of the heart and arteries, without the need for injection of contrast agents. An examination that exists nowhere else in a hotel setting – it doesn’t even exist in the most reputable medical establishments. Only a few examples of this machine exist in Europe. This level of technology is simply astonishing. This MRI can detect heart problems 10 years before they occur, which can help prevent them by adopting a healthy lifestyle.

I also discovered TecnoBody’s D-Wall Elite, a cutting-edge piece of equipment that’s revolutionizing the way we approach wellness and fitness. At first glance, it looks like a mirror, but it’s much more: combining a 65″ Full HD video screen with a 15″ touchscreen monitor and an infrared 3D camera, it analyzes up to 16 joints in real time as you move. You’re precisely guided through every gesture, benefiting from instant feedback on posture, amplitude and alignment.

There’s plenty of other high-tech equipment at Buff Medical Resort, and this is just the beginning. The owner confided to me that he will soon be equipping himself with blood-cleaning equipment, and there are more innovations to come…

A wide range of treatments

I was able to testIHHT (Intermittent Hypoxic-Hyperoxic Training), a method originally used in the fields of performance medicine and longevity. Lying comfortably, you breathe alternately oxygen-depleted (hypoxia) and oxygen-enriched (hyperoxia) air, simulating the conditions of altitude training… without moving. This alternation stimulates mitochondrial production, enabling the body to better manage oxidative stress. The result? Improved vitality, accelerated cell regeneration and a real boost to energy.

Another highlight was the Soft-Pack, an enveloping treatment on a heated water bed. I was placed in a sort of cocoon, floating without getting wet, while a body treatment was applied to me. The sensation of floating provides an immediate, almost hypnotic muscular release. This absence of pressure on the body, combined with the constant warmth, creates a state of total release. In just a few minutes, you feel as if you’re floating between two worlds.

Another must: a session of Watsu, a little-known aquatic treatment that combines shiatsu, gentle stretching and floating in a pool of warm water. Lying in a therapist’s arms, eyes closed, the body is carried along by the water, cradled, stretched and mobilized. A sensation of returning to an embryonic state, an almost hypnotic relaxation. By the end of the session, I felt drained, floating between two worlds. It was both a physical and emotional experience.

Magnificent facilities (Photo: Luxe Wellness Club)

While BUFF Medical Resort places great emphasis on cutting-edge technology, it has not forgotten its age-old traditions. I was treated to an Abhyanga massage, an ancestral Ayurvedic treatment originating in India, performed with warm oils. The silky texture of the oils, the perfectly balanced heat and the soothing rhythm of the massage create a sensation of rebalancing. It’s a deeply relaxing treatment.

I’ve also taken part in yoga sessions, either in a beautiful room bathed in natural light, or outside by the pool. Far from performance yoga, the emphasis here is on body awareness, breathing and introspection. The teaching is gentle and attentive to the body, with a welcome therapeutic touch. Among the professionals who accompanied me during my stay, I was particularly impressed by Aaron Giuga, an exceptional osteopath and therapist.

Precise, intuitive and deeply human, he brilliantly combines osteopathic techniques, postural adjustments and yoga practices to offer a truly holistic approach. His gaze is right, his touch sure, and his listening sincere. It’s this kind of rare encounter that makes a stay at BUFF so worthwhile.

Tasty, revitalizing FX Mayr cuisine

One of the pillars of BUFF Medical Resort’s holistic approach is therapeutic nutrition, inspired by the principles of the FX Mayr method. Far from the austere image one might have of a medicalized diet, the meals served here are a real surprise for the taste buds, while being designed to deeply regenerate the body.

Every meal becomes a ritual of mindfulness: we eat slowly, almost silently, taking the time to chew carefully – for this is one of the foundations of the Mayr method. The idea is to soothe the digestive system, considered the center of immunity and vital energy, by putting it temporarily at rest. No raw vegetables, little sugar, no coffee or alcohol: here, we go back to basics with comforting broths, melting vegetables, well-cooked cereals and a few light protein touches.

I was amazed at how refined and tasty this simple food can be. The chef manages to create plates full of sweetness and balance, with controlled but always satisfying portions. You feel nourished, but never weighed down. As the days go by, your tummy becomes calmer, your thoughts clearer, your body lighter.

The dietary program is, of course, individually tailored, following an initial consultation with a doctor or nutritionist. You can also receive natural supplements, targeted infusions or personalized advice on how to prolong the effects once you’re back home. I found this approach particularly consistent with the BUFF spirit: gentle yet effective preventive medicine, where nutrition becomes a therapeutic act in its own right.

Our feeling

Buff Medical Resort is clearly positioned as one of Europe’s most promising medical wellness centers. Its high-level medical approach, combined with luxurious accommodation and top-quality holistic treatments, offers a coherent and seductive overall experience. What particularly sets BUFF apart is the way it revisits the FX Mayr method with more flexibility and comfort than some other, stricter establishments. It strikes the right balance between medical rigor and joie de vivre, between discipline and gentleness. A wonderful address for those seeking to prevent, regenerate and reconnect with the essentials.
