Four Seasons Bali at Sayan: Reborn on the Island of the Gods

In the heart of the island of the gods, Four Seasons Bali at Sayan invites you to slow down, listen and feel. It’s gentle luxury, deeply transformative. For travelers in search of meaning, beauty and true well-being, this is one of those experiences you won’t forget, because it changes something inside. There are places where you arrive without really knowing what you’re looking for. And then, very quickly, everything falls into place. The milder air, the light filtering through the leaves, the calm. In the heart of Ubud’s verdant valleys, Four Seasons Bali at Sayan embodies this pause, subtle and profound, in a world that is often too fast-paced. A place designed to refocus and take care of yourself.

A tropical setting on a valley side

Four Seasons Bali at Sayan is just 15 minutes from Ubud, in Bali’s spiritual, cultural and wild central highlands. From Denpasar airport, it’s about 1h30 drive. A journey punctuated by rice paddies, villages and small roadside temples. On arrival, you cross a suspension bridge over the treetops. Below, rice paddies and the Ayung River outline a discreet, almost secret world. Four Seasons Bali at Sayan literally nestles in the vegetation, and that’s its strength: to blend in so as to better reveal its surroundings.

The architecture, by Heah & Co. and Design Studio SPIN, reflects this same desire to be anchored: soft forms, natural lines, local materials. The central building, in the shape of a rice bowl topped by a lotus pond, immediately sets the tone – everything here is symbolic, but nothing is demonstrative. Finally, works by Indonesian artists punctuate the spaces, reinforcing the link with Bali’s spiritual culture.

Suspended suites and intimate villas

The complex offers some sixty accommodations, divided between suites and villas. Some are perched on the hillside, others on the riverbank, surrounded by ferns and bamboo. Each has its own private terrace, and often a swimming pool, with a direct view of the jungle or rice paddies.

Inside, the décor is discreetly refined, with carved wood, Balinese fabrics, bespoke furnishings and omnipresent natural light. Everything is designed to promote a sense of space and calm. It’s a hushed luxury, without overload, that lets you breathe.

Families are welcome, with two- and three-bedroom villas perfectly suited to their needs, while travelers in search of solitude can opt for suites nestled in the most peaceful corners of the estate.

Well-being at the heart of the experience

If the Four Seasons Bali at Sayan had to be remembered for just one thing, it would undoubtedly be its unique approach to wellness. Here, pampering becomes an inner journey, an act of reconnection, deeply nourished by local traditions and nature.

Sacred River Spa: an energetic immersion

Sacred River Spa, nestled between rainforest and rice paddies, was completely redesigned in 2024. Now covering almost 5,000 m², this sanctuary combines Balinese wisdom with contemporary comfort in seven new treatment villas. Each, named after sacred elements such as Teja (fire) or Sejuk (water), features a bathtub sculpted from Indonesian stone and Lemi Portofino massage beds, combining cutting-edge technology with handcrafted aesthetics.

Fully integrated into its surroundings, the spa has been designed as an extension of the landscape. The treatment rooms are open to nature, and the path leading to them runs through a lush garden dotted with volcanic stones and sacred fountains.

This spa is based on the sekala/niskala duality, the visible and invisible worlds. This Balinese philosophy guides our treatments, which do not stop at the physical, but aim for a profound balance between body, mind and energy. The approach is holistic, intuitive and always personalized. The aim is not just to relax, but to help each guest refocus, reharmonize emotions and regain a sense of clarity.

Chakra ceremonies: a treatment for each energy center

One of Sacred River Spa’s flagship experiences, the chakra ceremonies, offer a comprehensive and poetic approach to the seven energy centers. Each ritual is unique, enveloping and transformative.

These ceremonies combine :

  • Deep massage with targeted essential oils;
  • Scrubs and floral baths ;
  • Volcanic mud or mineral salt wraps;
  • Guided meditations, therapeutic sounds (tuning forks, singing bowls), breathing ;
  • Purification rituals inspired by local practices (fumigations, blessings).

The “Anahata” treatment, for example, works the heart chakra with a rose quartz massage and floral bath, while “Muladhara” invites you to reconnect with the Earth with a smoke ritual, vetiver notes and an anchoring massage. The tone is right, the results tangible: we often emerge more aligned, more serene, sometimes transformed.

Restu Bumi: the sacred link with the Earth

Another signature treatment, Restu Bumi is a true spiritual ceremony. It pays homage to Mother Bali and her nourishing energy, with a blessing ritual, a purifying bath and an intuitive massage conducted like an invocation. It’s an invitation to release clutter, cleanse old tensions, thank the body and make peace with oneself. This treatment is a perfect illustration of the spa’s approach: drawing on Balinese traditions to offer a profoundly contemporary experience.

Niskala Wellness Retreat: an inner journey

Launched in 2025, the “Niskala” program invites you to a three-night retreat dedicated to subtle energies. It combines private jungle yoga, a chakra ceremony, a Pulih Batin treatment (breathing, ice bath, infrared heat) and a “sacred nap” in a suspended silk hammock. A rare, deeply introspective interlude.

A complete range, from traditional to soft science

In addition to signature treatments, the spa offers a wide range of complementary services, always designed with transformation in mind:

  • Healing massages tailored to the body’s needs;
  • Bioenergetic facial treatments with natural serums and gua sha techniques;
  • Multi-day spa trips, for those who want to truly disconnect;
  • Scrubs and wraps, using local ingredients (ginger, lemongrass, sandalwood…);
  • Manicure, pedicure and hair care with plant elixirs;
  • Guest practitioners, renowned international therapists present year-round depending on programming.

Then, some experiences stand out for their sensory and vibratory approach. For example, Tirta Ening offers a purifying treatment inspired by Balinese sacred water, combining gentle steam, crystalline shower, waterbed massage and sound healing. Earth Rising, a more earthy treatment, combines exfoliating scrub, semi-precious stone wrap and sacred oil massage, enhanced by the sounds of crystal bowls and gongs. The entire spa is imbued with the philosophy of BioGeometry, applied to architecture, symbols and treatments to promote subtle harmony. Finally, Synthesis Organics products, of plant origin and enriched with natural energies, are combined with precise musical frequencies, broadcast via quartz bowls tuned to 432 Hz and exclusive playlists, to accompany body and mind throughout the ritual.

All this is done without emphasis. The service is attentive, precise, warm, with a rare ability to sense what the person needs, even when they don’t have the words.

Practice spaces and movement

The wellness experience continues at Dharma Shanti Bale, a yoga pavilion open to nature. Hatha, vinyasa, meditation, pranayama and sound baths follow one another in a sacred atmosphere.

Among the new practices:

  • Antigravity® Yoga: aerial yoga in suspended hammocks designed to lengthen the spine and release tension;
  • Chakra Yoga: seven sessions targeting each of the energy centers;
  • Full Moon Yoga: sessions in the moonlight, under the starry sky, to balance yin and yang energies;
  • Hot stone yoga: restorative postures with hot stones from the Ayung River, with the option of sound therapy.

The meditation led by Ibu Fera, a former Buddhist nun, adds a unique dimension:

  • Sacred Nap: a siesta suspended in a silk hammock, lulled to sleep by Ibu Fera’s voice recounting the life of the Buddha;
  • Mala Meditation: meditation with rudraksha rosary, accompanied by personalized prayers and mantras;
  • Life Talks: open dialogues on themes such as inner peace and happiness.

Last but not least, the fitness center is open 24 hours a day, with tailor-made support. It features a Recovery Room with ice baths, sauna, steam room, zero gravity chairs (infrared, crystals, PEMF) and a Pilates Studio. A Fit Bar also offers healthy snacks and beverages to help the body regenerate after exercise. Outdoor activities (rafting, cycling, meditation in nature) complete the approach.

Special attention to families

Four Seasons Bali at Sayan doesn’t forget the little ones. Thanks to the free Pici Pici kids’ club, children aged 4 to 12 enjoy a fun and cultural program. Balinese art and dance classes, outdoor games, sports activities, films, video games, creative workshops – there’s something for everyone. Meanwhile, parents can take full advantage of the treatments and wellness area. The team can also organize family excursions: wildlife parks, walks in the rice paddies, temple visits… everything can be adapted to suit children’s wishes and ages.

Inspired, lively cuisine

The gastronomy is as rooted and subtle as the place itself. The Ayung Terrace serves refined Indonesian cuisine overlooking the river. The Riverside, by the pool, offers a light and tasty menu. Sokasi, an intimate table d’hôtes, offers 7-course tasting dinners inspired by local produce, in an immersive atmosphere where each ingredient tells a story. The menu evolves with the seasons, and cooking techniques respect local traditions while incorporating contemporary touches.

In addition to all this, you’ll find Balinese cooking classes, ayurvedic and vegetarian menus, ingredients from the kitchen garden… In short, eating here is an act of healing.

A complete immersion in Balinese culture

Beyond well-being, the resort offers cultural experiences: meditative walks in the rice paddies, spiritual ceremonies, dance or cooking classes… Far from frozen folklore, these moments embody the vitality of a living culture. A journey of transformation, in the noblest sense of the word.
